AboutThe identity of Small's Clone Press is pretty elusive. So far it actually doesn't have any legal reality. Its publications don't carry ISBNs. Small's Clone is fictively real, subsidiary of the fictively real Small's Clone Industries. Though little-known, it has a name. Though little read, it does make books (and other things), incarnate objects in the material world. It has a website, and even an internet domain. There are no owners or employees, though people do things in its name. What is in a name? In a world of tremendous information, when knowing is undeterred by distance and unconfirmed by proximity, a name can be all one needs. It is the model of organization used by terrorists, advertisers, theologians, and of course pamphleteers. Anyone can use the name and I can't stop them. Working to build a name, and thereby a meaning, a voice, a reality, for those who might not otherwise have one. In this sense, the company is an accidental public service. You should know a thing or two about the practical side of things. Currently, all of the Small's Clone products are produced by printing-on-demand at Lulu.com. We were drawn to partnering with Lulu because of their comparatively affordable prices and their open-source approach, based on the belief that everyone should have access to the means to make their ideas heard. In fact, its founders are veterans of the open-source software movement. Given the realities of our existence, Small's Clone Press would barely be possible without printing-on-demand. Conventional publishing requires the vast equipment and investment (either corporate or personal) that Small's Clone has not the means for. With printing-on-demand, every item is produced as it is ordered. This means more production time and a higher per-unit cost, but with all the middlemen dropped out of the process, both the publisher and author come out on top, particularly for short-run productions. Get InvolvedThere is always room for more! Meeting new people and starting new conversations is the bottom line at Small's Clone Press. If you are a writer, pamphleteer, or musician, feel free to send me your work and we can talk about putting something out. If you are an ambitious businessperson with a big, curious heart, all the better. |
ContactSince places are amorphous and always changing, the best way to reach the press is by email. Our address is clone@smallsclone.com. |
